Each year a group of librarians from around the state take the stage at the Washington Library Association conference to share some of their favorite recent titles by Washington State authors. This year's presentation took place on March 31, in Wenatchee, with Andrea Gough and David Wright of Seattle Public Library, as well as Jenna Zarzycki of King County Library and Sheri Boggs of Spokane Regional. The title of dating reality TV show "The Catch" takes on a whole new meaning when the last remaining contestants gathered on Otter Island learn of an unofficial entrant, a savage lesbian cryptid named Patricia. - The Grand Promise, by Rebekah Anderson.
It was called the Eighth Wonder of the World, but not everybody living upstream of the mammoth new Grand Coulee Dam is a fan of the project. Third generation Washingtoninan Anderson based this historical novel on her own family. - Fire Season, by Leyna Krow.
Embezzling banker Barton Heydale has reached the end of his rope when a devastating hotel fire turns out to be just the catastrophe he needs to stay afloat, in this darkly funny tale of 1880's Spokane. - Tell Me I'm an Artist, by Chelsea Martin.
Feeling like a fish out of water amidst the privelege and pretension of San Franscisco art school, working class Joey stuggles to turn her experiences in to art. A bildungsroman with devastating candor and charm. - On Fragile Waves, by E. Lily Yu.
An Afghan family is haunted by more than mere memories as they struggle to find refuge in Australia, in this moving and lyrical magical realist story of the immigrant experience.
