The PLAEN Pronunciation Guide.
This PG only uses standard English letters in its symbols. All are lower case except consonants W and Y.
U is spelled for both \u\ and \'u\; 'above' \u 'buv\.
W is spelled for both vowel and consonant in the PG; 'wet', 'wood'; \Wet\, \Wwd\, 'wet', 'wwd'.
Y is spelled for both consonant and vowel; \'y\, \y\ and \Y\, 'easy' \'y zy\ 'yzy; 'yes' \Yes\, 'yes'.
Merriam-Webster is the main reference for the pronunciations in this pronunciation guide.
* The 'Plaen' \au\ symbol represents the vowel sounds in; 'cause', 'or' and 'saw'. In my accent, the o in 'woman' has the same sound as the o in 'or' and the o in 'oil' and the o in 'on'. It seems nonalphabetic to me, but I will stay with the convention of the dictionary; kauz, aur, sau, wwmun.
Merriam-Webster is also the reason PLANE has one symbol to represent the pronunciation of 'u' for both \u\ and \'u\. Likewise \'y\ and \y\.
This guide will be the reference for "The PLAEN Spelling System".
Above - ə-ˈbəv
Easy - ˈē-zē
