Aliens have arrived on Earth and have given humanity 30 days to relocate to Antarctica. Of the billions of people on Earth, only a few million make it and now they have to survive on the coldest place on the planet. Not only do they have to build a new society but the survivors are faced with the challenge of whether they can adapt to live in the cold.

I really wanted to like this book but it was kind of boring. The synopsis doesn't really give a plot, just that aliens arrived and made everyone on Earth evacuate to Antarctica. It took me about 100 pages or so before I finally realized what this book was about - scientists in Antarctica experimenting to genetically engineer humans who can live in the cold, named Cold People (hence, the title of the book).

The book follows a couple of survivors of the mass exodus - Liza, who is on vacation with her family and meets local fisherman Atto, and Yotam, a young Israeli soldier. We see a little bit about how they get to Antarctica and then the book skips 20 years into the future where Atto and Liza are now parents to one of the cold people and Yotam works on the cold people project.

I didn't really find any of the characters especially compelling so I didn't particularly care what happened to them. I'm not sure what it was but everyone was really dull and it felt like no one had any emotions. I mean, we were told if people were happy or sad, but nothing came through in the writing.

I also had too many questions about things that were not in the book - how did the survivors build all those homes in Antarctica? What happened during the 20 years that the book skips over? What about the aliens? I thought the storyline about the aliens making everyone evacuate to Antarctica was super interesting but then we never read anything about the aliens after the beginning of the book. What were they doing with the rest of the world? Why did the aliens allow people to live if they made it to Antarctica? There is even a location in Antarctica where the aliens transported all the Earth's important landmarks, like the Pyramids of Giza, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Taj Mahal, and the Statue of Liberty, so that the survivors could see them. I found this very confusing. Why would the aliens do this?

There were so many more things that I wanted to read about than what happened in the book. Additionally, there is a prologue that I did not understand the point of.  I just had too many questions.
