I started etching on iron by mistake. The Iron Olive was how it all started...
The view of an old olive tree in front of the house, in Tuscany. The etching times were practically the same as zinc, I obtained nice, deep blacks where I wanted to, etc.
It was only after a few years, that 8 found out the plate had rusted. Zinc doesn't rust, so that was odd!
I so decided to work on old pieces of scrap iron to work on star-signs...

For a few months I had this image in my head of an Upside-Down tree, with its roots in the air.
It was after I'd etched, that I discovered this was an ancient Celtic symbol of connection with the other World.
Oak trees, especially Holm Oaks (Quercus Ilex).
