It may seem like y * handmade is turning into an obento/nature stroll blog of late, but that doesn't mean I'm no longer sewing.
Over the holidays, I made a sample for a new pair of pants. Last year, I made a pair using a men's pattern that fit quite nicely, but as I wore it, I had to admit that the extra fabric in the front hip area that bunches up when I sit was starting to bother me more and more. I suppose it turned out to be a good lesson in the importance of fit differences between men's & women's designs.
So I searched for a women's pattern of similar shape with a more fitted front and found it in a book from which I've made two other pants before and decided to try it out. The unfortunate part about this book is that most of the patterns only come in one size, and they are all slightly too large for me. That was the case with this one too, so I adjusted the sample, letting out the back darts a little, then taking in the width at center back and both sides. After that, I also redrew the pocket portion of the pattern, moving the pocket opening inward at the top edge as taking in the sides brought it closer to that seam, then made it a little shorter as I felt that it was a bit too long. I think this should do it. Now it's just a matter of finding a fabric that I like before I can sew up an actual pair.
