We made it through the first month of the year! I hope everyone's start to the year is going well. I finally finished knitting my shawl, which I feel like I had been working on for at least six months. I don't know if I love it but I'm glad it's finished and I can mark it off my 2023 goals list. Now I can move on to my next knitting project. Here is my monthly wrap-up of some of the other things I was up to in the month of January.
What I'm reading:
I put a bunch of books on hold at the library at the beginning of the year. Most of these are books I've been wanting to read for a while and just haven't, so I decided to just put them on hold so I would have to check them out from the library and read them. While I was putting books on hold, I was not paying much attention to which books were available. I envisioned an average of one or two books per week would become available at a time, which would be the perfect reading pace. This did not happen - almost all the books became available at the same time. At one point this month, I think I had ten books checked out from the library. Needless to say, I had to renew some of the books I had checked out and I will be reading library books for a while.
What I'm watching:
Three Pines on Amazon is a great watch. It's based on the Inspector Gamache series of books written by Louise Penny. It's a mystery television series set in the fictional town of Three Pines, a village in the Eastern Townships of Quebec. Inspector Gamache is played by Alfred Molina and I think he does a great job. I've read a couple of books in this series but none that the episodes were based on so the mysteries were all new to me and I had a lot of fun trying to figure out the mystery along with everyone else. There are also so many great secondary characters on this show. I liked the other detectives that work with Inspector Gamache and all of the inhabitants of Three Pines. I really hope this show comes back for Season 2.
What I'm eating:
Many, many years ago, Starbucks used to sell a bakery item called toffee nut bars. I used to get one of these all the time. It's basically a cookie-type bar with chocolate and toffee nut pieces in it. Starbucks stopped selling these for whatever reason but I always think about them when I go into the store. I found a copycat recipe online and made the toffee bars over the weekend and they are so good! I think I've found my new favorite item to bake. Now I just have to make sure I don't eat them all in just a couple of days.
What I'm loving:
I've been wanting to start a gratitude journal for a while now. I love the idea of jotting down little things that I am grateful for and things that made me smile during the day. I've had the journal for a few years now but never actually wrote in it. I decided that I would start this year. I missed the first couple of weeks of January but as the journal is undated, I can start writing in it whenever I want. So, one Monday night I was sitting down and I pulled it out and jotted down some things I was grateful for. I've been writing every night before I go to sleep, so hopefully I will keep this up. I can't wait to look back at the end of the year at all the things that have brought me joy and gratitude over the year.
See you next month!
