Local weather girl Bea Armstrong has just gotten out of a long-term relationship and has been avoiding her family. But this year, she has decided to return home for Christmas where she discovers a surprising guest - Henry Fairfax, the boy her parents have always wanted her to marry. When Bea is invited for an sudden job interview, the only person available to drive her is Henry. Throw in a snowstorm, a ridiculous interview, and the unexpected arrival of her ex, and Bea is left to wonder why she bothered to come home at all.
This book was utterly predictable but I liked it anyway. Even though I knew how everything would play out, I cringed every time Bea replied to one of Adam's texts or talked to him. I didn't see the appeal of him at all and I'm kind of annoyed that he didn't have a worse ending.
The job interview that Bea goes to is crazy! First off, would you want to work for someone who schedules a job interview on Christmas Eve? And then part of the interview is a scavenger hunt? I get that the employer is some eccentric billionaire but it was a bit over the top.
There's a lot going on in this book and there are a lot of characters. I never could figure out who Bea's brother and sister-in-law were and who their children were. There were a lot of names and I think I got them all confused. There are also a lot of plotlines and I wish the author had gotten rid of a couple and instead expanded on what was left as I felt like a few plotlines could have benefited from more story. For instance, I would have liked to have the romance between Bea and Henry have developed more instead of everything happening in the last 10 pages.
I really liked the character of Bea, when she wasn't being stupid about her ex. She was smart and selfless and I really enjoyed reading about her job and how she interacts with her community. She is a bit mean to Henry in the beginning and I never understood why but I guess there has to be some animosity to be overcome.
All in all, this is a cute Christmas story.
