Number of Local Diptheria Cases Mount
An appeal for parents to have all children immunized against diphtheria as rapidly as possible was sounded today by Dr. Vlado A. Getting, state commissioner of public health, as he revealed that diphtheria cases had mounted to 28 last month — thereby doubling the seven-year median of 14 cases.
His monthly report of communicable diseases indicated that infantile paralysis showed a marked drop during November with 35 cases reported as compared to 99 cases during the previous month.
Scarlet fever cases showed a sharp upward increase with 777 cases occurring as compared to the seven-year median of 594 cases Mumps wits extremely prevalent with 916 cases occurring during the month to top the seven-year median of 389 cases. Measles, on the other hand, showed a marked drop with only 355 cases reported in comparison to the - seven-year level of 816
Lobar pneumonia, fortunately, fell below the expected rate with only 162 cases as compared to the median figure of 234 cases.
A total of 50 cases of malaria were reported in servicemen returning from overseas or in servicemen suffering from recurrent attacks of this disease.
