One Norwood man is missing in action in France and two more have been wounded in that theatre, one seriously, according to War Department telegrams received by their families 1 over the weekend. They are:
Pvt. James Kcady of 35 Mountain avenue, missing in action.
Pfc. William J. Fitzgerald of 260 Lenox street, seriously wounded.
Pfc. Robert B. Flaherty of 6 Summit avenue, slightly wounded.
Notification from the War Department that his son is missing in action was received by James Ready at his Mountain avenue home on Saturday. Only the bare announcement was made by the War Department which said that a letter of information would follow. Pvt. Ready, who is 34 years of age. is married to the former Isabelle Smith of Walpole, who with their year and a half old son. John, is making her wartime residence in Cambridge with her mother.
OVERSEAS IN SEPTEMBER
Pvt. Ready entered the service a year ago this month, receiving his training at Camp Shelby. Miss., and Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and went overseas with the Infantry September 1. He has been serving with the 26th (Yankee) Division, now fighting on the lower sector of the Western front. He was recently awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge.
Pvt. Ready has four sisters, Anna, Mary and Margaret of Norwood. and Mrs. Arthur Jacobson of Charlestown, and one brother. Michael, of Islington.
SERIOUSLY WOUNDED
Ffc. William J. Fitzgerald. 22. who was seriously wounded in action in France, has been overseas but ten weeks. The War Department telegram was received by his father, John F. Fitzgerald, at his home. 260 Lenox street, last night.
Entering the service two years ago this December 8th, he received his training at Camp Gordon, Ga. Three brothers in the service are Cpl. Joseph M., a paratrooper in France; S/Sgt. James, who is attached to a night fighter squadron in New Guinea, and John of 35 Hill street, who is a carpenter's mate 2/c with the Seabees in Hawaii. He has two sisters, Mary and Helen of Norwood.
WITH TANK FORCES
Pfc. Robert B. Flaherty was slightly wounded in action against the Germans in France on November 16th, according to the telegram received yesterday by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William J. Flaherty of Summit avenue. He landed in France in September and has been serving with a tank .battalion of the 10th Armored Division.
His last letter home was written the day before he is reported to have been wounded, his parents said.
Pic. Flaherty has been in the service a year and seven months. He trained at Keesler Field and later studied at the University of Alabama and the University of Georgia under the ASTF until that program was discontinued by the Army. He was then assigned to the tank forces.
His father is a veteran of the last war and saw action in the same region of France where Robert was felled.
A brother. William, is a student at the Senior High School.
