I got up this morning, put on my race t-shirt and jingle bells, and headed out to the Jingle Bell Run 5k. In past years, the start and finish line for this 5k have been at Westlake Park in downtown Seattle. We would jingle all around the streets of the downtown retail core and even ran a portion of the way on the express lanes on the freeway. But this year the race was held at Green Lake Park.
I love this 5k; it is super fun. There are always people dressed up in the most festive costumes. I saw runners dressed as snowmen, reindeer, and wearing all kinds of Santa gear. There were so many dogs dressed up as well! Plus, Santa and Mrs. Claus made an appearance.
It wasn't raining when we started but it was a bit cold. Unfortunately, around 10 am it began to drizzle for a while and of course, I didn't wear a jacket with a hood. I just kept running and waiting for the rain to stop. The bright spot was that everyone got a medal when they crossed the finish line which made me smile. Although I got rained on, I was glad to get out and get some fresh air and exercise!
The Jingle Bell Run 5k is to benefit the Arthritis Foundation. It raises awareness and funds to support arthritis research for better treatments and a cure.
