The Golden Enclaves is the third and final book in The Scholomance trilogy. The second book ends on a cliffhanger and this book picks up right where it left off. El and her friends have graduated and made it out of the Scholomance, all except Orion. El is in quite a state of shock but soon learns that enclaves are being attacked at an alarming rate and she might be the only one that can save them. So many secrets come out and we learn more about the origins of the enclaves and the Scholomance.

I have been waiting for this book to come out since I read that cliffhanger at the end of book 2. This book didn't quite go how I thought it would and I'm definitely still digesting it. There were so many things and ideas that had been weaved into books 1 and 2 that made it clear how much thought the author put into the plots of these books. I found myself trying to remember what happened and trying to remember if something had been mentioned in a previous book.

This book is definitely a lot darker than the previous books. Also, for it being the final book in a series, it seemed to have a lot of exposition. I felt like a lot of new information was given to us that we could have learned about before. It seemed like there were paragraphs and paragraphs of descriptions of things that I found myself skimming over.

Also, I wished there were more El/Orion scenes. I know that the romance in the book is secondary to the fantasy and magic plot, but I feel like their romance was built up so much in books 1 and 2, and it kind of just fell flat in this book. I still love that El is kick-ass and has a great group of friends, but I was looking for those scenes with Orion.

Like in the first 2 books, I thought the world-building was great and I loved the author's take on a magic school. These books are filled with fabulous and complicated characters, especially all of the women. I loved how the women shone in these books.

This was a great ending to the trilogy and I am bummed that there are no more books in the series to read.
