[New post] Pfc. Ralph E. Shackley Was In Sicilian Campaign

No Details Given Parents In War Department Telegram

Pfc. Ralph E. Shackley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Shackley, 83 East Cross Street, Norwood, was reported by the War Department last Saturday to be missing in action. He was in the Sicilian Campaign.

The announcement that Pfc. Shackley was missing was made by the War Department in a formal telegram which read simply:

"We regret to inform you that your son, Pfc. Ralph.E. Shackley, is missing in action."

No information or detail were made available, although his parents knew that he had been taking part in the Sicilian campaign.

Pfc. Shackley was inducted Into the Army on Oct. 23, 1940, and he was stationed in the field artillery. He graduated from Norwood High School, class of 1932, and prior to his induction into the armed services of his country, he was a steam shovel operator for a local contracting firm.

He la a member of the Norwood Congregational Church, and he was active in church affairs.
