A Pledge On A Dream

akshita1776

Sep 13

I pledge fealty to a dream,

That was seen along this flag

A cloth imbibed with hope

And tarnished with fear

Bloodied by necessity

Sworn to bravery

Countless men, women

Have grieved, fought, bled and died

To keep our tattered dreams alive

Not to glorify a symbol

But defend an idea, an ideal

Helping us still dream

Of a better today and utopian future

This flag soaring today

It does not shine, it basks in our glory

It does not weep, it needs our tears

It does not smile, it needs our mirth

It does not fly, it needs our wings

It does not grow, it needs our progress

It does not speak, it needs our voice

It must not mourn, the dreamers

No more should it see discrimination

No more should it see intolerance

No more should it see a regional gloom

No more should it see societal fray

No more should it have fantasts,

Submerged in corrupted waters

Let us swear allegiance

To this chance of dreaming

Let us swear allegiance

To a goal once set, and the ones we set today

I wrote this poem long ago for independence day and while I do realize I might just be like a month too late in posting this, I still wanted to share it

Hope you like it!

Have a nice day!!
