  • Free movement blog: Upper Tribunal confirms undocumented extended family members cannot benefit from EU Settled Status scheme
  • FCDO paper: Will the AI Revolution Cause a Great Divergence? This paper considers the implications for developing countries of a new wave of technological change that substitutes pervasively for labour.
  • UK government: Government requests consultations with EU on participation in EU science programmes. The UK Government wrote to the European Commission on 16 August 2022 to request consultations on finalising the UK's participation in EU Programmes.
  • House of Commons Library briefing paper: Brexit and the UK's Overseas Territories. This briefing paper analyses the significance of the UK's departure from the EU for the UK's 14 Overseas Territories, in relation to trade, funding, defence, and sovereignty.
  • House of Commons Library briefing paper: Progress on UK free trade agreement negotiations. This briefing summarises the UK's progress in its negotiations for free trade agreements (FTAs). It looks at negotiations which have already started and countries where the UK Government is making preparations before negotiations start. It does not go into detail on the content of the negotiations. It focusses on 'new' trade agreements – not those which rolled over previous EU agreements.
  • House of Commons Library briefing paper: Mobile roaming in the EU after Brexit. Since the end of the Brexit transition period (1 January 2021), there has been no obligation on UK mobile operators to guarantee surcharge-free roaming across the European Economic Area (EEA). Other protections, including the daily limit on roaming costs, expired on 30 June 2022. Consumers travelling to the EU will need to check the roaming policies of their mobile operator before they go abroad.
  • Welsh Parliament press statement: Will the Welsh Government recommend consent for the Northern Ireland Protocol Bill? On 13 June, the UK Government introduced the Northern Ireland Protocol Bill. If passed, it would turn off parts of the Northern Ireland Protocol in domestic law, empower Ministers to turn off other parts and enable Ministers to put different arrangements in place, without the EU's input or consent.
  • Welsh Parliament press statement: Concerns remain for European citizens trying to stay in Wales after Brexit. After Brexit, European citizens who were living in the UK before 31 December 2020 must have applied to stay by 30 June 2021. The UK Government's EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS) remains open to receive late applications and for second applications from those seeking to convert a temporary status to a permanent one.
