The Off The Grid: FBI Series is a series of romantic suspense books written by Barbara Freethy. As of August 2022, there are 11 books in the series and I've read them all.

I binge-read this entire series in about 2 months and really liked it. I read the books on my Kindle and ! seemed to average a reading time of around 4 hours each (I don't know how fast of a reader I am.). I would usually read this series at night before I went to sleep and I read more than one over the course of a weekend. The books had just what I was looking for -  a lot of action, intricate plot lines, and romance. There is also some mystery because you don't know who is a good guy or a bad guy or why someone is in danger. But there is also not a lot at stake. I don't think it's a spoiler to say that none of the main characters or their love interests dies or gets seriously injured.

Each book follows a different FBI agent as they are drawn into a case and find love along the way. The first 5 novels focus on a group of agents who were in the same group at Quantico and who have kept in touch. One of the members of their group died while in training at Quantico and now, 5 years later, bad and unlucky things are happening to the agents while they are working. The group wonders if someone is trying to get revenge for their friend's death. This story arc is wrapped up at the end of the 5th book. Books 6 through 11 follow other FBI agents that are friends with/work with the core group.

Characters from the other books in the series show up in each book, which I liked. I think this is where binge-reading the series helped because I could remember who all the characters and FBI agents were and what happened in their books. There are 11 books so far, which means there are 11 FBI agents and their significant others to keep track of so it might be hard to keep them all straight.

I did, however, notice some similarities by the time I was reading the last book. I'm not sure I would have noticed these had I read the books as they were released but because each story was fresh in my mind I kept thinking about them. A lot of people end up getting bashed over the head. I kind of felt like the author could have come up with another way to knock someone out/kidnap them. Speaking of kidnapping, it seemed like almost every woman, and it didn't matter if they were an FBI agent or not, was kidnapped or grabbed by the bad guy so that the man had to come and save her. There were multiple plots where someone's friend was missing or killed and that's how the person got involved with the FBI investigation. Additionally, the FBI agent in book 3 is named Wyatt, however, in a subsequent book there is a friend group and one of the friend's name is also Wyatt and I kept thinking it was the FBI agent from book 3 and it wasn't. I feel like an editor definitely messed up here.

That being said, this is a great series. You can read the books as stand-alones if you want; you don't have to read every book. But know that characters from the other books do show up so it might be easier if you knew who everyone is.

If you are looking for a romantic suspense series to read, I would recommend this series.
