Birds are incredible creatures. Migrating birds travel huge distances (some migrate non-stop from the Arctic to the Antarctic) from wintering grounds to breeding grounds along a flyway (a flight path) that is sometimes up to 22 000km.
From Wikipedia:
I have often wondered how they know when it is time to go (Temperature? Day length?) and how they navigate.
For me though, there are little heroes that do not migrate. They remain here in bitterly cold winter conditions, where they can only feed for the hour or two every day that it is light enough to eat. Among them are my favourite little Blue Tits. They are so small and their bodies are so fragile, yet they survive. Many people put out tallow balls filled with nuts when it is really cold, so that these little birds have easy access to high energy food.
I have a little blue tit shelf in honour of these little feathered heroes.
The little carved bird I have had for years, and the little print is by Sara Tolf, a talented Swedish artist who also does other 'music animals'
I fell in love with the little musical bird in the window of Sara's Gallery in the Swedish Old Town in 2020, the height of the pandemic. The shop was never open when I passed, because they had irregular hours due to the pandemic. The cute little blue tit picture seemed to symbolise living your best life in a challenging world.
I took these two photos on June 17, 2020
When I passed the shop last week and saw it was open, I shot in and bought the picture and the bag.
The service was wonderful, and the person who helped me was interested in who I was and why I loved the art. I was so happy to be able to tell her! She took this photograph. I am looking for a frame for the picture, though you are able to buy them pre-framed in all the different sizes. There are also other products, such as tote bags, hoodies, and coffee cups.
Find Sara here:
I can definitely recommend!
