A small thrift shop in Atlantic Beach wouldn't seem like the perfect place for a charming tea room with exceptional food. But it IS. The Cup of Dreams Tea Room is located inside PossAbilities Plus, a working thrift store staffed by adults with special needs. Susan, the Director, welcomed us warmly, and Conner was our outstanding server. After lunch Conner even took us on a tour of their garden where they were growing herbs, vegetables (eggplant), and fruit trees (mango). Their mission statement reads:
"PossAbilities Plus seeks to enhance the lives and opportunities of individuals with special needs through training, employment, and social opportunities."
They enhanced OUR lives. Nine Sketchers gathered here and were thoroughly enchanted by the friendliness of the workers as well as the quality and creativity of the food. It was a lovely presentation with tiered trays holding tiny pastries and sandwiches. Everyone had their own teapot and teacup along with a beautiful selection of teas. And we didn't go away empty-handed - the thrift store had something for everyone. This is an admirable venture close to my heart, and I urge everyone to make a visit. You won't be sorry.
