I wanted to thank everyone for all the wishes and thoughts when I had Covid-19 BA.5 a couple of weeks ago. I finally tested negative after 8 days of being sick, and I remained indoors for a further 4 days just in case. After two and a half years of being careful, I probably caught Covid the first time I was in a crowd, at Midsummer.
I knew the day I woke up with a high fever that it was not a cold, or flu. I did not lose my sense of taste and smell but I did have fever, a rash, very sore throat and headache, and dizziness. I was also incredibly tired and lay like a lump on the sofa for over a week. Thanks to the vaccine and the fact that the virus seems to be largely milder now, I recovered quickly. Sweden has rapidly increasing cases (as do many other countries), but no new restrictions. Yet.
Coming out of 2020/2021, my working patterns have changed completely. I now have clients in other cities and countries, and so I still teach primarily online. About 20% of my teaching is face-to-face. But the thing I have noticed most with my students, colleagues, friends and myself is that 2020 and 2021 are a blur. People cannot remember what year things happened because it was just a fuzzy mess. 2019 is the last year we had with clear signposts - sporting events, seasonal celebrations, awards ceremonies, school and work actually being at school and work, holidays. Without those signposts, the year just flows by endlessly.
