....it's a while before Autumn properly arrives, but the signs are already in the shops. Summer clothing is deeply discounted, and the Autumn palette of shades is already in stock.
Unlike Easter appearing in the shops in January, and Christmas arriving far sooner than it should, when it comes to school supplies in July, I am still a nerd at heart. Sweden has summer holidays in July for the most part, although many people working with the EU have to take their annual leave in August.
And all the fresh crisp, new, planners, pens, stickies notes are all inspiring me to stock up on new little accessories. Can you remember being a student, and the excitement of getting your new notebooks, (or exercise books as we called them), and pens and erasers and pen case,
I was delighted to see the types of items shown below today. All pristine and all so full of hope. Hope of a good school or work year, Or a great year of keeping a record of the books read, weight lost, a puppy's milestones..

This is why I love living in the Northern Hemisphere. In the Southern Hemisphere everything happens at the same time of the year, so there is nothing to get excited about after January. Think of it - we have the month-long industrial holiday, the school holidays, the summer holidays, Christmas, New Year, and the start of the school and university year all at the same time. Having all that expense come down on you at once is awful. And then there is nothing much else to look forward to for the rest of the year except perhaps Easter.
