It has been nearly 2 years since I launched my range of colourful macrame craft kits and I haven't written a blog post about them! This is part introduction and part FAQ. Lets dive in!
What are my kits all about then? Make and Fable colourful macrame craft kits help you find your own creativity through macrame. I love making and crafting and I want to share that with as many people as possible through my kits. They are beautifully packaged and come with all the materials and instructions to create unique pieces of macrame jewellery, accessories and home decor. The kits are a great introduction to the craft of macrame and make ideal gifts for craft-loving friends and family. I design and package all the kits in my home studio in Nottingham, UK.

What makes Make and Fable Macrame Kits so special?
The kits have been lovingly thought out to make the experience of creating enjoyable. All kits are presented in my signature bright blue packaging, perfect for gifting. Each kit comes complete with colourful cord and materials, alongside my comprehensive instructions.
It is super important to me that my kits are accessible and simple to follow, so no techniques are skipped over and every step is clearly photographed, along with written instructions. Some kits have accompanying video tutorials and I am continually adding shorter videos and reference blog posts to help guide you along the way.
I try to source materials from small businesses wherever possible, including cotton cord manufactured in UK. Oh, and they are all available in a range of bright, colours! No beige and cream over here!
Why did I decide to create macrame kits?
The quick answer is that I love helping others to make things! For several years I designed silver and resin jewellery alongside running a successful craft blog. I loved the craft tutorials that I created, but I was putting a lot of content out for free. I had long dreamed of creating my own craft book and in 2019 I decided to get on and produce one myself! In March 2020 I launched my first paid-for eBook Modern Macrame Jewellery and Accessories. From here it felt like the next logical step to create physical kits from the projects in the book. More new and original kits followed and I now have 12* kits and counting.
Are the kits suitable for a macrame beginner?
Absolutely! All my kits can be made by beginners. The instructions are all aimed at those with little to no experience. I am working towards all kits having a blend of written, photo and video instructions, so you can learn using the method you prefer. Each step is clearly explained, and there are even supplementary blog posts and videos to provide extra tips. I regularly learn new skills and techniques myself so that the beginner's mindset is fresh in my head.
Some kits are quite simple patterns that are quick to make, and others are a bit fancier and time-consuming. If you are looking for a simple kit to get you started, try the Three is the Magic Number Bracelet Kit or the Lazy Millipede Necklace Kit
I'm not sure I have the creativity or patience for macrame
Firstly, I believe everyone is creative in their own way! Creativity is so much more than being able to draw, paint or write a novel. Being creative is just making something that wasn't there before and I give you all of the materials and instructions to do just that. Macrame is just tying knots - if you can tie your shoelaces, you can macrame.
As for patience; allow yourself to learn. Give yourself permission to work out how to do something new, without adding pressure to make it perfect. I do my best to help you, to make the instructions as easy and clear as possible, and provide all the materials. Just remember that no one is 100% perfect at something the first time they try. So let yourself off the hook and enjoy the process of making and learning.
Will I need to buy lots of tools and supplies?
Each kit comes with all the materials you need, the only things you need will be a pair of scissors, a tape measure or ruler and something to help you hold the macrame down as you knot. This can be as simple as some sticky tape (masking tape and washi tape also work!), or a clipboard. You can get macrame boards and pins, but these aren't necessary to begin with. Some of the jewellery kits might need a pair of pliers to fasten clasps or earrings on (I will always mention this in the full product description) and some might need some glue to attach ends and clasps, but I try to give options that don't include the sticky stuff.
Why am I called Make and Fable?
The brand name originally came about when I was still making silver and resin jewellery along with my craft blog and I wanted a name that covered both aspects. So the "make" bit is fairly obvious, it is about me making and helping others to make things with my craft tutorials. The "fable" comes not only from writing the blog, but my fascination with stories around craft. I love finding out the history of crafts, but also about the new stories people will tell about things have made, and how they learnt to create them.
Why should I buy a macrame kit?
I truly believe in the positive effects that making and creating can have. Making something is almost like a meditation, where your mind quietens and you get lost in the process. When you buy a kit, I want you to enjoy making it! I also want to make macrame colourful, in a sea of white and beige. And I happen to think the end results lookpretty cool.
You can buy my colourful macrame craft kits on my online shop, or if you are outside of the UK, on my Etsy. If you have any other questions, please feel free to drop them in the comments. I'd love for you to join The Loop; my monthly email filled with news, exclusives and top tips - sign up here.
