Lemur-Lemure

A month ago we went to a Safari Park. I wanted to walk among the animals instead of watching them from the car window. If only I lived near the park - I would volunteer. In the photo above, there is a lemur. I wonder what he's thinking? Like all primates, lemurs have five divergent digits with nails (in most cases) on their hands and feet with an opposable thumb. The lemurs pose made me think of the movie Madagascar. One day I'll visit Madagascar.

Safari parks aim to protect biodiversity, with research, and conservation of species. Animals are less stressed than caged animals in zoos. One day, because of mankind, most animal species will be extinct, and man will only be able to see them in safari parks. Think Noah's Ark. Sad but true.

Jacques Cousteau said in 1992.  "Future generations would not forgive us for having deliberately spoiled their last opportunity. Let us stop this delayed-action genocide! Let us cease thinking only of ourselves and reasoning only in the short term. This is our responsibility, as we hold in our hands the future of tomorrow's exacting generations."

Excerpt from the Safari Park website. THE PROTECTION OF BIODIVERSITY, RESEARCH AND CONSERVATION

In just over 100 years, the number of animals that populate the Planet has halved. Since the early 1900s, about 27,600 animal species have become extinct, of which 160 have been declared in the last decade and about 70 species that are extinct in Nature but still present in captivity, thanks to the protective and conservative role of the Parks. According to the 2019 report of the UN panel on biodiversity Ipbes, about one million animal and plant species are at risk of extinction at various levels of severity: the culprit is man, the only species that reproduces at exponential rates.
