This is a beautiful vintage ring containing the very rare collector's gem, sphene (also called titanite) and diamonds. Sphene has a higher dispersion than diamonds, meaning that it is incredibly sparkly. The three light green sphenes in this ring refract light like fire, with flashes of orange. A unique feature of the sphene is its double refraction, meaning that light will split into 2 rays as it passes on through the gem. This creates a variety of colors that look incredible. There are also eight tiny diamonds in this ring which sparkle nicely.
The ring is old and set in 9ct gold, but I love wearing it as often as I can. Sadly, sphene is softer than other gemstones, so can become damaged. I am careful (take it off when washing my hands, don't sleep with it on), but I don't baby it.
