A few weeks ago Herby took part in an art workshop with a local artist where they were making plastercine heads. I hope this one isn't supposed to be me!
Our caterpillars did well with all five turning into chrysalides and then emerging transformed. Unfortunately one didn't fully emerge and although I put it outside I don't expect it lived very long. The others were all healthy looking butterflies and were released in the garden.
We've been walking somewhere different this week and Herby and Alby spotted these tadpoles in a stream. We couldn't see many but they looked quite big.
We also had a tip off from a local farmer as to the whereabouts of the first wild orchids this year. So we've been out hunting for them.
Herby it's enthusiastic about doing some woodwork at the moment. So after some research she settled on the idea of making an elastic paddle boat. Partly inspired by paddle to the sea and examples like this online.
This photo was taken after trying the boat in the bath so the colours have faded. It works but I think the paddle needs to be a bit thinner.
We've settled on a new poem to learn - Today I saw the dragonfly by Tennyson. It's very similar in style to The Eagle which Herby and Alby enjoyed learning and performing. They would perch on a chair and wait for the right moment to launch off like a thunderbolt! The dragonfly is much the same although they start off curled up and then emerge ready to fly away.
