Cath is a Simon Snow fan. Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan.... But for Cath, being a fan is her life—and she's really good at it. She and her twin, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it's what got them through their mother leaving.
Reading. Rereading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fanfiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere. Cath's sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can't let go. She doesn't want to.
Now that they're going to college, Wren has told Cath she doesn't want to be roommates. Cath is on her own, completely outside of her comfort zone. She's got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend; a fiction-writing professor who thinks fanfiction is the end of the civilized world; a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words... and she can't stop worrying about her dad, who's loving and fragile and has never really been alone.
For Cath, the question is: Can she do this? Can she make it without Wren holding her hand? Is she ready to start living her own life? And does she even want to move on if it means leaving Simon Snow behind?
Review:
Guys, I am so jealous of everyone who's gonna read this now because I can't ever read it again for the first time. This one's sugar and spice and everything nice.
Plot and Characters:
The plot is like the 2nd best thing about this book. Nothing about it seems fictional. Being obsessed with books, being socially inept, having emergency dance parties, noticing things about guys, totally not eating dinner 'cause socializing's scary, everything feels so real. Yes, I agree there are any plot twists or villains or a thrilling storyline but this one's about life and all its lovely little things which we reminisce with a smile. Never have I ever read a book that feels so real and warm and fuzzy.
When we come to characters I must say Cath is my soul sister!!!! Every single thing about her resonates with me. I love how inspite of Cath and Wren being twins they're so completely different. Reagan's the perfect roommate you'd ever want. Levi, is the guy we all want in some place of our hearts. He's not the mysterious broody guy who oozes sex appeal but an average guy with his imperfections and mistakes who'll love you for who you are, unconditionally.
Writing Style:
I couldn't even dream of complaining about this. The way the author has formed this story and presented it is impeccable. The way Simon Snow excerpts( I CANNOT STOP THINKING ABOUT BAZ. IM GETTING THAT TRILOGY AS SOON AS I CAN) and Cath's fanfic excerpts are dispersed throughout the book made the setting ever more real. Also, the way they speak, not too dramatic neither too bland, just perfect. *squeals over its awesomeness*
Favourite Quotes:
"To really be a nerd, she'd decided, you had to prefer fictional worlds to the real one."
"You've read the books?" "I've seen the movies." Cath rolled her eyes so hard, it hurt. (Actually.) (Maybe because she was still on the edge of tears. On the edge, period.) "So you haven't read the books." "I'm not really a book person." "That might be the most idiotic thing you've ever said to me"
"You give away nice like it doesn't cost you anything."
"Because I'm the kind of girl who fantasizes about being trapped in a library overnight."
"Hey, Cath. Will you warn me when you take off your glasses?"
I died of swooning over the last one *even more squealingggg*
