Hourly Rate: $32.82 - $39.89 per hour
Shift Times: Monday – Saturday; hours vary and may include evening and weekend shifts.
The City of South San Francisco is a General Law city with a population of 66,185 residents that grows to 110,000 during business hours. South San Francisco is strategically located on the west shore of the San Francisco Bay, in northern San Mateo County, 10 miles south of San Francisco. This City is also located along the Bay Area's main transportation routes, including 101, 280, Caltrain, BART, San Francisco Bay Ferry, and the San Francisco International Airport.

THE DEPARTMENT
The South San Francisco Public Library is a full-service library committed to delivering quality services to a diverse community. Library services are available at three sites, including the Main Library (on West Orange Avenue) the Grand Avenue Branch Library, and the Community Learning Center (CLC). Lifelong literacy services are provided by Project Read and at the CLC. The CLC offers reading, writing, computer, parenting, and workplace literacy skills, and homework assistance for elementary school students. Both Project Read and the CLC are known for their creative grant-funded projects and collaborations with local schools, CBOs and government agencies. The Library's annual budget is $5.9 million with a staff of 40 FTE's and a collection of 167,000 volumes. The Library is an active member of the Peninsula Library System and the Peninsula Libraries Automated Network, known for their innovative programs and management.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal Librarian I will have knowledge of library principles, practices and procedures, including privacy, confidentiality and intellectual freedom in a library context; procedures, methods, techniques and sources used in library work, including but not limited to technical services, collection development and maintenance, reference and reader's advisory services, programming and promotional methods, books, authors and subject genres, reference and research sources and resources; library automation, computer software and equipment, mobile devices, and e-readers; and library procedures, including circulation, cataloging, acquisitions and online searching. The ideal candidate will also have the ability to effectively supervise library operations in the absence of senior library staff; develop skills in all service areas to teach and assist at any public service point of need; stay current in new technologies that impact library and patron services and adopt new technologies for improved library services; and interact positively with a wide variety of patrons in a busy environment.
QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:
Experience: None required.
Training: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and a master's degree in library science from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association.
