[New post] The latest—all about artist books (and me)

There have always been books in my work. The several series of monoprints exploring the divine feminine from the 80's and 90's (Book of Her, Cycles, Childhood Dreams, Life Force) were, in fact, unbound books. Lately, I literally tightened up the act. First, I made journals and took notes in grad school in them. Much more interesting than the commercial ones. That project morphed into my popular Almost Blank Books—short on words, long on random images.
An amazing opportunity presented itself during the pandemic lockdown. I joined a zoom writing group! Although I never thought of myself as a writer, suddenly, I was actually getting words down that made sense (of a poetic sort.). And the artwork that resulted from a new landscape embodied more words as well.
Enter North Bay Letterpress Artists. As the fear of public spaces waned, I was able to join a letterpress community here in Sebastopol. How much fun it has been to work my poetry in lead type and form printed pages into sculptural images. These are just a recent few; and there are many more on the way. For now, offering the intimacy of a book, bringing my viewers closer and actually putting my words and images into their hands feels like the right thing. I think we have all had our fill of distancing.
