i know the timing isn't quite right with hints of spring in the air and all... but this osmanthus fragrans pouch that i began last autumn is done.
in truth, the embroidery had been long finished and had already been made up into a pouch, but i hadn't been able to settle on an accent piece to attach to the side. that's actually the thing that i have the hardest time with most often. without a little accent, the pouch looks like it's missing something, but if it's too eye-catching, it ends up competing with the embroidery for attention. it needs to look natural in its supporting role, but i've found that making something that looks 'natural' can be surprisingly difficult, as the more i strive for it, the more it ends up looking contrived. in the end, i chose wood & glass beads in shades of browns and muted greens to go with the autumn flower and bring it all together.
a little too late to introduce it now, some might say. but i'm just going to consider it a head start for this year's autumn!
