Hello, this is Sunday Wisdoms! Every week for 52 weeks, I'll share 5 ideas/quotes/passages from my commonplace book that resonated with me during the past week. Occasionally, there will be ideas from me too. Take what you can get. Your mileage may vary.

Check out the past issues of Sunday Wisdoms here.

This is Week 46 out of 52.

David Brooks in an article for the NYTimes entitled 'The Moral Bucket List':

"External ambitions are never satisfied because there's always something more to achieve. ... There's an aesthetic joy we feel when we see morally good action, when we run across someone who is quiet and humble and good, when we see that however old we are, there's lots to do ahead. The stumbler doesn't build her life by being better than others, but by being better than she used to be."

Yoshihiro Togashi:

"You should enjoy the little detours in life to the fullest. Because that's where you'll find the things more important than what you want."

Seneca:

"It takes the whole of life to learn how to live."

Michael of Lessons from the Screenplay analyzes Soul (2020) and concludes:

"After getting what he wants and hearing this story, Joe now understands the theme at the heart of the film: attaching your purpose in life to a goal will not bring you permanent happiness even if you achieve it and in the mean time you'kll miss out on all the life happening around you."

Shane Parrish:

"The more insulated you are from the consequences of your decisions, the less likely you are to make good decisions... The person who makes the decision should experience the consequences of that decision."

Till next week.

Always grateful,

Claire
