stitching scrappy hearts
starting in the center and building up around it - something like log cabin
I've made circles and squares for years
they are good for clothing patches, coasters and fun on a boro piece
stitched with precious handwoven scraps
the first three - with hangers of twisted thrums
and a fine piping around the edge
they would have been much quicker to make without the piping but it makes a nice finish
the backing creates a pocket to hold a note or card or tiny gift
working on a fourth
the fabric on the left is handspun silk with an ikat (kasuri) pattern which I wove years ago
made into a light jacket and matching tank top - the jacket is from a Japanese Saori pattern book
years ago several mother's and girls from Saori's class of challenged weavers visited Victoria
they presented a fashion show at the Victoria Art Gallery - they were so excited and pleased with their creations
the instructions are all in Japanese but are quite easy to follow
and an special trick or treat
Little Bear's Halloween ghost costume - a patchwork of old sheeting I use for backing boro
I cut holes and buttonhole stitched them for the ears and used thrums for the stitching
Little Bear is all scraps - handwoven fabric and his pants are from an old shirt
you can see all the bears in their Halloween costumes here
the scraps keep getting smaller and smaller!
