I've got to know quite a lot of the boats and whilst most of them are white and look crisp and nautical against the blue water the few brightly coloured ones really add a colourful punch to the river scenery. Today's watercolour postcard was done at Franklin looking out over one of the private jetties to a lovely little red boat sitting jauntily at anchor. The clouds were swirling around reflecting their purple shadows in the river and the jetty posts added some nice wriggly reflections as well. I used a little white gel pen and black fineliner to add some extra marks to the grasses at the water's edge. White waterproof marker pens or gel pens are a great little investment to bring back some of the whites in watercolours or add in some rigging or reeds. Let's face it I'm not so hot at leaving the white of the paper so my white marker or a little white gouache come in very handy! Do you have any handy tips f0r watercolour sketching - I could really use them! | | | | You can also reply to this email to leave a comment. | | | | |
