The Emeryville Public Market hosts free creative events, and my friend and I joined for mandala paint night with Crystal of Crystal Clear Crafting Club. Crystal prepared a table of rocks, paints, tools, and inspiration. Some painted bug rocks, others food rocks; I really wanted to try my hand at the advertised mandala designs.
For my attempt at mandala painting I decided to use the stamping tools so I picked a relatively flat rock as my base (Crystal primed them for us!). For colorway I went for pinks and oranges and did some color mixing to get more variation. For this project we used acrylic paints (also in marker form).
Starting was easy; it was tough to decide when to stop. I almost stopped with this star-like design and kept the edges blank, but I was curious to see what it would look like if I kept adding to the design. So I kept going!
I love a good final palette photo...
We let our pieces dry while we got snacks and then finished with a top coat spray. The results! Left: my final mandala rock; right: my friend's strawberry and a mandala rocks.
I thoroughly enjoyed color mixing and the repetitive nature of creating a mandala design. The process turned out to be quite relaxing, and I even would say I had a burst of energy afterwards. Bonus: I felt like a nail artist when I used the stamping tools. 🙂 Check out the Public Market for more creative offerings!
